Al-Tibb-al-Nabawi (The Prophetic medicine) part 1
Bismillahir Rahman nir Raheem,
Assalam oalikum,
As we know, the Al-Jami` al-Sahih ( Sahih al-Bukhari) is a standard
collection of ahadith of Prophet Mohammad (s.a.w). In the introduction
of his commentary of Sahih Bukhari of Kitab al-Tibb (Book of
Medicine), Ibn Hajar has divided the science of medicine into two
categories: Tibb Jasad (physical medicine) and Tibb Qalb (spiritual
medicine).
I have discussed the latter in my previous posts (Ruqyah). It is
imperative that the Muslim brethren should be aware of both the
aspects of medicine- spiritual and physical because there is a
symbiotic relationship between these two kinds of medical knowledge.
Both these aspects of medicine have been emphasized in Islam.
Al-Nisai, Ibn Majah and al-Hakim reported on the authority of Ibn
Masud that Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: "Verily Allah has not sent
down an ailment without having sent down a remedy for it, so treat
your selves.’
Here are some ahadith which depict Al- Tibb-al-Nabawi
1. Narrated Said bin Zaid: I heard the Prophet saying, "Truffles are
like Manna (i.e. they grow naturally without man's care) and their
water heals eye diseases." (Sahih bukhari: Volume 7, Book 71, Number
609)
2. Narrated Nazi': Abdullah bin 'Umar said, "The Prophet said, 'Fever
is from the heat of Hell, so put it out (cool it) with water.' " Nafi'
added: 'Abdullah used to say, "O Allah! Relieve us from the
punishment," (when he suffered from fever). (Sahih bukhari Volume 7,
Book 71, Number 619)
