Isti'zaan or seeking permission before entering the Home (part 3)
Assalam oalaikum,
In the earlier verses of Surah Noor there was a mention of Zina (adultery) and Qazaf (punishment of adultery) and their limits. In verses 27-29 of the same Surah Allah (swt) has taught the mankind the etiquettes of entering other people’s houses in order to prevent free inter-mingling between the opposite sexes which usually becomes the underlying reason of adultery and qazaf
Here a few ahadith which will Inshallah make it clear that Prophet Mohammad (saw) vehemently opposed those who did not follow the commands of Allah (swt) regarding saying salam, then announcing one’s name and finally seeking permission to enter.
Allah Narated By Sahl bin Sa'd: A man peeped through a round hole into the dwelling place of the Prophet, while the Prophet had a Midray (an iron comb) with which he was scratching his head. The Prophet said, "Had known you were looking (through the hole), I would have pierced your eye with it (i.e., the comb)." Verily! The order of taking permission to enter has been enjoined because of that sight, (that one should not look unlawfully at the state of others).
Narated By Jabir: I came to the Prophet in order to consult him regarding my father's debt. When I knocked on the door, he asked, "Who is that?" I replied, "I" He said, "I, I?" He repeated it as if he disliked it. Sahih Bukhari: Volume 008, Book 074, Hadith Number 267.
Malik related to me from Safwan ibn Sulaym from 'Ata' ibn Yasar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was questioned by a man who said, "Messenger of Allah, should I ask permission of my mother to enter?" He said, "Yes." The man said, "I live with her in the house." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Ask her permission." The man said, "I am her servant." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Ask her permission. Do you want to see her naked?" He replied, "No." He said, "Then ask her permission."
