Assalam olaikum,
So far I have discussed that a qari has to follow a set of rules to maintain the dignity of his position. However, if he takes his religious obligations lightly or if he goes astray, there is a lot of torment waiting for him on the Day of Judgment. Here are a few ahadith which throw light on this issue:
It is reported in one tradition that Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: “One who seeks lIm (religious knowledge) for something other than pleasing Allah or intends something other than pleasing Allah, should think his abode in the Hell” (Qurtubi).
It is reported on the authority of Abu Hurairah (ra) that Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: “One who learns lIm (religious) not for Allah’s sake but seeks with it worldly benefits will not (even) smell the fragrance of Jannah (The paradise).” (Tirmizi)
It is reported on the authority of Abu Hurairah (ra) that Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: “Seek refuge with Allah from ‘Jubb-ul-Hazan’. He (saw) said that it was a valley in Jahannum from which Jahannum (The Hell) itself seeks refuge with Allah one hundred times a day. He (saw) was asked as to who will be the people who will be thrown in that valley. He (saw) said “Qari -e-Qur’an (reciters of the Qur’an) who are hypocrites by their deeds.” (Tirmizi)
There are numerous Ahadith in this regard. This should be taken as a warning by the students of the Qur’an so that they have pure intentions of gratifying Allah (swt) and also to lead their life as per the Qur’anic injunctions.
