Dots and harkats in Al-Quran-1
Assalam oalaikum,
We have seen so far that in order to simplify the reading and learning of Al-Quran some divisions of the Quranic words and verses had been introduced. This Herculean task was accomplished by a large group of Sahaaba or Ulema (ra) after them.
Besides the ayaat, surah, paras and manzils there are many other pratices which were adopted in order to simplify the Tilawat and Ta'leem of Al-Quran. These points are discussed below:

Dots and harkats in the quran:
In the early copies of Al-Quran there were no dots or harkats on the huroof. Since the language of the Quran, I.e. Arabic was the mother tongue of the Arabs so by virtue of their command over Arabic they used to apply the dots and harkats in their recitation of the Quran, as they went along. They knew precisely where the essential dots were to be applied.
The fact thet the Sahaabas (ra) had learnt the Quran directly from Prophet Muhammad (saw) made it more convenient for them to read the Quranic words sans dots or harkats.
