Assalam o alaikum,
The benefits of capitalism are not distributed equally in the society which gives rise to inequality. An out and out capitalistic society lacks government welfare schemes which lead to poverty. The outcome of capitalism is homelessness, slums, health problems etc.
The hunt and greed for wealth in capitalist societies leads to 3 major problems:
~Unnecessary consumption: In the olden days people used to consume only as much was needed. After the industrial revolution there has been an emergence in the consumer class and the consumption level has become very high. Excessive level of consumption leads the world to a dangerous pattern which not only affects the environment but also causes inequalities amongst the people.
~Income disparity: Research shows that the 20% of the world’s most affluent people consume 76.6% of the world’s total consumption. This inequality in consumption is due to inequality in incomes. There is enough evidence which proves that income inequality is the direct outcome of capitalism. In capitalism the rich keep on getting richer and the poor keep on getting poorer. Thus, the gap between the rich and the poor keeps on increasing because the benefits of capitalism are not equally distributed in the society. (contd)
