Shaykh Muhammad Mahmud al-Tablawi was born in 1936 near Cairo in Mit Uqba.
He had studied the Holy Quran in a traditional school where his exceptional
voice
was noticed by everyone. Hence he was encouraged to become a professional
Quran reciter. He had well-versed with music and was inspired by distinguished
reciters such as Shaykh al-Bahtimi, Shaykh Mahmud Ali al-Banna and Shaykh
Abu l-cAynayn al-Sacisah
Shaykh al-Tablawi was the first reciter who had his recitation record on cassette
tapes. His recordings are quite popular and widely distributed in Egypt.
His admirable breath control and the freshness of his voice are the main factors
behind his popularity. Shaykh Muhammad al-Tablawi had succeeded Shaykh
Mustafa Ismail as the Qaari at the al-Azhar mosque.
