Besides the health benefits for pregnant women date fruits also provide a lot of general health benefits too. They are useful for battling hunger and illnesses. The nutritional value of date fruit stems from its rich contents of dietary fiber, salts, carbohydrates, fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, amino acids and protein.
The elemental fluorine found in dates helps to protect the teeth against decay
Selenium, an element that is believed to prevent cancer is also found in dates.
The date fruits contain a minimum of 6 vitamins which include vitamins B1 thiamine, B2 riboflavin, nicotinic acid (niacin), vitamin A and a minor amount of vitamin C.
Dates contain hordes of other minerals and salts such as magnesium, copper, boron, calcium, cobalt, fluorine, iron, manganese, sodium, potassium, phosphorous and zinc.
The protein found in dates has 23 kinds of amino acids. Some of these amino acids are not found even in the most popular fruits such as bananas, oranges and apples.
14 varieties of dates has shown dietary fiber as much as 6.4_/11.5%. The dietary fiber depends on the variety and amount of ripeness.
Dates contain pectin too which may have significant health benefits.
No wonder hat the word date is mentioned more than twenty times in Al- Qur’an.
Here are a few ahadith that shed light on the importance of eating dates:
Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: “Break your fast by eating dates as it is purifying”.
Prophet Mohammad (saw) said “A house without dates has no food”
In another hadith Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: “Whoever eats seven dates of the High Land of Madinah in the morning will not be hurt by poison or sorcery on that day.”
This leaves no room for doubt about the talim and complete Hikmah of Al-Quran. Interestingly, there are a plenty of other benefits of eating this wonderful fruit and many more benefits will Inshallah be discovered by modern science. Allah (swt) has said in Surah Rahman, “Then which of the favors of your Lord will ye deny?
It is evident by the numerous benefits provided by date fruit that it is a blessing for mankind and we should understand its significance as a food and be thankful to Allah (swt)
