Assalam olaikum,
Let us carry forward the discussion on verse 2:256 of the Holy Quran, which pertains to prevention of forcible conversions to Islam.
Muslims have always followed this command of Allah (swt). Historical evidence shows that after capturing Jerusalem from the crusaders, Salah-ad-din never forced the innocent orthodox Christians to revert to Islam. Instead, he granted them religious freedom.
If we observe the medieval history too, we find that the Mughal rule had lasted in India for more than three centuries. Even then the Indian Muslims, at present, are a minority community. Had the Mughal rulers (Aurangzeb) forcibly converted their subjects to Islam, then there would not have been a single non-Muslim found in India!
Molding public opinion by manipulating facts and distorting the truth is a very old ploy used by the critics of Islam to present it in a negative way. We all know that the print media such as newspapers, periodicals etc and the electronic media such as television play a very powerful role in molding public opinion. These media have been misused time and again to generate a wave against Islam and its followers. History textbooks have also been misused as a tool to manipulate historical facts by the critics of Islam. Kids who have an impressionable mind are thus easily brainwashed against Islam. By mixing politics with education, distortion of facts and presenting biased views the poor history ends up as a mere story. (contd)
