12 Yusuf (Joseph),سورة يوسف
The obligation of respecting Al-Qur’an-1:
The Quran is a heavenly book and the Word of Allah (swt). Therefore, it goes without saying that it should not be treated as an ordinary book. It is of utmost importance that we should show respect for Qur'an.
Moreover, it is our duty to enlighten others who do not understand the need for respecting the Quran. Some people commit the misdemeanor of placing the Holy Qur'an on their laps while reading it or at the foot of their beds or in bookcases (like other ordinary books are kept).
Here are a few ahadith which categorically show the authority of Al-Quran:
Laying down the practical rules for the protection of Al-Qur’an, Prophet Mohammad (saw) says: “One, who says something about the Qur’an without knowledge, should find his abode in the Hell.” (Tirmidi
Another Hadith says:
“One, who interprets Qur’an as per his own opinion, he did wrong even if his opinion may be correct.” (Tirmizi)
Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) used to say “Which earth will carry me, which sky will cover me if I say anything about Qur’an of my own opinion or without knowledge.”
These ahadith clearly show the significance of Quran and that how much reverence predecessors have shown for Quran. Hence it is our duty to follow their footsteps to earn the goodwill of Allah (Swt).
