Assalam oalaikum
Allah (swt) says in the Holy Quran: Moreover, He comprehended in His design the sky, and it had been (as) smoke: He said to it and the earth ‘Come ye together, willingly or unwillingly’. They said, ‘We do come (together), in willing obedience,’ (TMQ-41:11)
In Surah Ha-Meem, Allah (swt) asserts Himself as the Creator of the entire universe. He is the Master of all that exists in the universe. It is He who commanded the earth and the sky to come together. Since both the earth and the sky are Allah (swt)’s creation they dared not disobey their Master. They at once carried out His commands willingly.
The earth, sun, moon, stars and the galaxies have all been formed from the same smoke which is referred to by Allah in 41:11 as dukhan.
Scientific research now accepts the fact that before the formation of the galaxies the celestial matter existed in the form of gaseous matter.
Allah (swt) has described that celestial matter as ‘Dukhan’ which can be translated as smoke. This word is best suited to explain that celestial matter to the people living 1400 years back. However, we live in the modern times. Hence, common sense suggests that we should perceive the word Dukhan as gaseous substance.
