Mention of figs in Quran-1
Assalam oalaikum,
[I swear] by the fig and the olive. (Qur'an, 95:1)
In the first verse of Surat at-Tin Allah (swt) swears by the figs. This verse bears testimony to the fact that figs hold a special importance as a fruit. Unlike olives and pomegranates, which have been mentioned many times in the Quran, the fig has been mentioned only once. However, the fact that it has been mentioned in a Heavenly book is enough to substantiate its importance.
Prophet Mohammad (saw) has praised the fig in the following words: “If I had to mention a fruit that descended from the Garden I would say this is it… (Mukhtasar Tadhkirah al-Qurtubi, p. 313)
Figs have been mentioned in Tibb-al- Nabawi as a complete fruit and a good cure for piles.
In the present times, figs have been found to have the highest mineral contents amongst all the fruits. As a food they are high in energy.
