Hakim Luqman
Assalam olaikum,
The 31st chapter of Al-Quran is named after Surah Luqman. Though it seems that he might be a prophet but he was not one. He was a black Egyptian who lived nearly 1000 years back. Apparently he was a carpenter by profession.
Allah (swt) had asked him to make a choice between Prophecy and wisdom. He chose the latter.
There is an interesting anecdote which reflects the wisdom granted to him by Allah (swt). It goes as follows:
His master once ordered him to slaughter a sheep for him and also asked him to bring the best two parts of the sheep. Luqman slaughtered the sheep and brought its tongue and the heart for his master.
After some time his master once again told him to slaughter a sheep and this time he asked him to bring the worst two parts. Luqman slaughtered a sheep and once again he brought the tongue and the heart.
His master got puzzled and asked Luqman, ‘When I asked you to bring the best two pieces you brought these and when I told you to bring the worst two pieces, even then you have brought the same.
Luqman-The wise replied: ‘There can be nothing better than these if they are good and nothing can be worst than these if they are bad.’
