Exploitation of laborers and Seerat-e-Nabawi-2
Assalam olaikum,
Narrated Anas (ra) that Prophet Mohammad (saw) used to get cupped and would never withhold the wages of any person. (Al-Bukhari-volume: 3, hadith # 480)
In the western economy all the labor related laws are related only with human beings. However, Islam, being the most practical religion of all times, gives importance to the beasts of burden too. Sahl Ibn al Hanzalia narrated that the Prophet (saw) once saw a camel which was carrying such a huge load that one could neither see its back or its belly. The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Fear Allah when you deal with the beasts of burden. They must be healthy for eating and riding. (Note: reported by Abu Dawood. # 2548, Ahmad and Ibn e Hibban)
According to Islam this worldly life is an like exam wherein some of us are being put to test by Allah (swt) by making us sub-ordinate to someone else, whereas some other people are being put to test by giving them powers and authority. In the light of this reality, those who have been given authority are not supposed to exploit the weaker section which has been made subordinate to them. This is because when Allah (swt) tightens his grip on the evil people, He can turn respectable people into humiliated ones, powerful people into weak ones and rulers into slaves in matter of no time.
