Bismillahir Rahman nir Raheem
Assalamoalaikum,
Prophet Muhammad (saw) has guided his followers to drink in a sitting positing.
He has instructed his Ummah not to drink while in a standing position
and he has also ordered those who drink while standing to vomit.
However, on a few occasions he did drink while standing.
Drinking in a standing position can cause many diseases. Besides this,
it does not quench the thirst and neither does the water settle in the
stomach. If one drinks while standing up then the water descends
quickly to the stomach and can aggravate it. The water does not get
digested properly too. However, if one does this occasionally, like
our Dear Prophet (saw) it will not cause any harm.
