Assalam olaikum,
When Qur'an was revealed fourteen centuries back, the science of astronomy was still not developed. Yet, being a Divine Book it spoke about the creation and the shrinking of this vast universe in the following verses:
Do the Unbelievers not see that the heavens and the earth were joined together, before We clove them asunder? We made every living thing from water. Will they not then believe? (21:30)
This verse mentions about the beginning of the universe from condensed matter. The Big Bang theory was discovered much later in the 20th century.
The Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a [written] sheet for the records. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it. [That is] a promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We will do it. (21:104).
This verse describes how Allah (swt) will shrink the entire universe and then start the creation all over again. These facts have been discovered by the scientists recently in the 20th century. The Scientists have named the phenomenon of shrinking of the universe as the ‘Big Crunch’. According to this theory, the universe, which is expanding like a balloon will become so thin ultimately that a time will come when there will not be any more of it left to expand and it will collapse on itself.
