Consumerism in the light of Seerat-e-nabawi- 3
Assalam olaikum,
Having understood the negative impact of consumerism which is rampant in the society, now let us discuss the solution of the problem in the light of Seerat-e-Nabawi.
First of all we should pay attention to the purpose of our creation. Allah (swt) says in the Holy Quran, ‘And I have not created the jinn and men except that they should serve me’. (TMQ-51:56).
Therefore, if we focus on the purpose of our creation, we would not have a powerful urge to fulfill our materialistic desires at any cost.
Allah (swt) also says in the Quran, ‘O children of Adam! Wear your beautiful apparel at the place of prayer. Eat and drink but waste not by excess, for Allah loves not wasters.’ (TMQ- 7:31).
Prophet Mohammad (saw) has also guided us in this matter. According to a hadith, ‘No human being fills a container to worse effect than he fills his own stomach. It is enough for a person to take just a few morsels to satisfy his hunger’. If he wishes to eat more than, it should be: one-third (of his stomach) for food, one-third for drink and one-third for breathing.’ (Tarmizi, Ibn Maja Hakim) (contd)
