Assalam oalaikum,
“But whoso does good works, whether male or a female, and is a believer, such shall enter heaven” (TMQ-4:125)
This verse also shows that men and women are equal in the eyes of Allah (swt). It is only by doing virtuous deeds that a person can earn the goodwill of Allah (swt), irrespective of his or her gender.
In Islam women are not supposed to be deprived of knowledge. Prophet Mohammad (saw) has stressed on the equality of both man and women in terms of intellect and knowledge. He said, ‘It is the duty of every Muslim man and women to seek knowledge’.
This hadith clearly shows that women are not meant to be treated like objects or slaves. They are also the Creation of Allah (swt) and therefore have been granted many rights such as the right to seek knowledge.
Islam has granted women the right to inherit property and also to manage their own wealth. Islam has further protected the women economically by asking the husband to give dowry to his wife at the time of marriage. Moreover, the husband can have right over that dowry only if the wife wishes to share it with him. Otherwise the dowry may become the exclusive wealth of the wife.
This stands in stark contrast to the peculiar tradition found in non-Muslim societies where the wife has to pay the dowry to her husband. We are all aware of the number of dowry deaths and brides burning cases which take place in these societies.
Fortunately, Islam has done away with all such evils by granting to the women the rights which they deserve because of the important role they play in the society as a mother and a wife.
