Exploitation of laborers and Seerat-e-Nabawi-1
Assalam olaikum,
Ironically the laborers, who play an important role in the development of any nation, are exploited by being given less wages for more work. The labor class was downtrodden and miserable during the past and today, in spite of globalization, it continues to drown in misery.
Islam, as the greatest religion of all times, does not look down on work. Instead, Islam encourages hard work and discourages wastage of one’s time.
Al-Miqdar narrated that Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: ‘Nobody has eaten a better meal than the person who has earned by working with his own hands. The Prophet of Allah, Dawood (as) used to eat from the wages of his manual labor. (Al-Bukhari-volume: 3, hadith#286)
Abdullah Ibn Umar narrated that Allah’s Apostle (saw) stressed the need for timely remuneration in the following hadith: ‘Give the worker his wages before his sweat dries’. (Tirmidhi- hadith # 2987and Ibn majah).
In another hadith Aby Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (saw) said: ‘Allah says, ‘I will be against three persons on the Day of Resurrection: First, who makes a covenant in My name but he proves treacherous. Secondly, one who sells a free person (as a slave) and eats the price. Thirdly, one who employs a laborer and gets full work done by him but does not pay him his wages; (Al-Bukhair-3:430).
