The misunderstandings created by the Western orientalists had such a drastic impact on the mindset of people that some, in present times, even feel astonished to know that the Muslims believe in Prophet Jesus. So the outcome of the hatred perpetuated by some writers was that Islam became a poorly understood religion in the Europe and America.
If we look back further into history we find that during the Crusades, (a series of holy wars fought between Muslims and Christians) almost 90,000 Muslims were killed when Jerusalem fell into the hands of the Crusaders (a military force which was sanctioned by the Roman Catholic Church in order to drive out the Muslims Europe and the Holy Land).
Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, aptly described the Crusades in the following words: These crusaders or many of them going to serve in what was to them a noble cause, committed the vilest and most disgusting of crimes.
The extent of evil massacre that was spread by the crusaders was described by a French eyewitness in the following words: ‘Under the portico of the mosque the blood had reached up to the knee level and it reached the bridals of the horses.’ (contd)
